About this artwork

The walk up the Morteratsch valley is a walk along a glacier's retreat measured in signposts: markers in the moraine record where the ice front stood in 1900, 1950, 2000, each one farther from today's tongue. What the ice left behind is a broad forefield of grey moraine, gravel flats and braided milky streams, and at the valley's head the Vadret Morteratsch still pours its icefall down from the Bernina group — Piz Bernina, the eastern Alps' only four-thousander, behind it. The scene shows the glacier as it honestly is now. Cold, bright valley light.

Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
